TV: House 2.08 - "The Mistake" Review

The TV Guide synopsis says...

Chase misdiagnoses a woman with an ulcer, and flashbacks (told from various points of view) dissect the case as her condition deteriorates. Stacy (Sela Ward) questions him and House about it following the patient's death and prior to a hospital disciplinary hearing. Kayla: Allison Smith. Dr. Ayersman: John Rubinstein.

Ah, what a great episode. There have only been two episodes that stray from the typical "mysterious illness, looks like one thing but really another" format that is, oddly enough, working for the show. The other would be last seasons "Three Stories" (House 1.21),and "The Mistake" is just as good.

Hugh Laurie and Jesse Spencer are in their prime, with Hugh still amazing nearly everyone as bitter, sarcastic, and yet somehow caring Dr. Gregory House, and Spencer getting more fun as Chase. The episode did good to help build emotional tensions as House still deals with Stacy being angry about his snooping in her psych file as a commitee of doctors decide the fate of the two. We get to see a Pulp Fiction-like take on the events, some hilarious acts of revenge from House, and a nice wrap up to another Season 1 episode with Chase's father (though it is sad we won't be seeing Partrick Bauchau anymore), as well as creating some trust issue with Chase and House regarding said father.

All in all, a great episode, though the final scene, revealing that House will be watched for a month by someone he's spent the past few years pissing off, is definatly going to make the next two weeks a long wait before new House.
